The Women's Committee was the first support committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Founded in 1923, the Women's Committee was the first support committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. We celebrated our 80th anniversary in 2003 and are still going strong with an active Board of 15 members and our committee consists of 40 members. The Board meets once a month to plan our activities.
Our activities include support of Symphonies for Schools, Philharmonic Friends letter writing campaign, Pension Fund concert, the Annual Fundraiser — to be held in February at the Riviera Country Club — and our Salons. The Salons are general meetings held on the second Tuesday of October through December and March through May. The meetings take place at various private homes for a short meeting, some coffee and a chance to hear marvelous guest artists perform. Guests are encouraged to come and are always welcome.
Membership eligibility is met by promoting the Los Angeles Philharmonic in all its activities and by annually purchasing a minimum of one season ticket. Our members come from all areas of Los Angeles and have included many active and civic-minded women, one of whom was the late Dorothy Buffum Chandler.
